A 160kW ground-mounted solar system has been installed at a popcorn production facility located in the Northern Cape. This system serves a dual purpose: firstly, it aims to reduce electricity expenses, and secondly, it seeks to alleviate the load on the standby generator during grid outages, thus cutting down on diesel costs. The installation incorporates three 50kW Huawei KTL inverters and boasts an annual generation capacity of approximately 325MWh.
The installation was carried out by Oryx Renewables, and it includes the integration of an automatic transfer switch that interfaces seamlessly with the diesel generator, ensuring a smooth transition between power sources when needed.
